Dear colleagues, friends, and members of the Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti!
It is with great pleasure and a deep sense of responsibility that I address you as the Director of this esteemed institution. I am writing to you with a profound sense of reverence and hope as we continue to carry forward the legacy of the great soul, Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, through Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti (GSDS). I am humbled by the trust and confidence bestowed upon me to work for this esteemed Organization, which stands as a beacon of Mahatma Gandhi's ideals and principles.
The Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti (GSDS) was formed in September 1984 by the merger of Gandhi Darshan at Rajghat and Gandhi Smriti at 5 Tees January Marg as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Gandhi Smriti stands as a sacred place where the epic life of Mahatma Gandhi ended on January 30, 1948. This historic site, formerly known as Birla House, was transformed into a National Memorial of the Father of the Nation in 1973. The serene grounds, captivating museum, and the site of Gandhi's martyrdom provide a profound insight into his life and sacrifice.
Next to Raj Ghat is the Gandhi Darshan, a pavilion displaying photographs and Museum showcasing the life of Gandhiji. The GSDS is dedicated to propagating the life, mission, and thought of Mahatma Gandhi through various socio-educational and cultural programs.
Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti has been instrumental in preserving and disseminating the rich heritage of Mahatma Gandhi. Through our various initiatives, exhibitions, research, and educational programs, we have strived to bring Gandhi's philosophy to life and make it accessible to all. I am fortunate enough to have the able and worthy guidance of our Hon’ble Vice Chairman, Sh. Vijay Goel. I also commend the efforts of my predecessors and the dedicated team that has worked tirelessly to nurture this institution.
At GSDS, we are committed to promoting Gandhian principles in every aspect of our work. Through our outreach to Schools, Colleges, Universities, NGOs, and like Organizations across India and abroad, we aim to inspire and educate the younger generation about the power of non-violence, truth, and compassion.
I am reminded of the immense legacy left behind by Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of our Nation. His unwavering commitment to truth, non-violence, and social justice continues to inspire millions around the world. It is our collective duty to uphold his teachings and ensure that his message resonates with generations to come.
We aim to follow the Gandhian blueprint of an inclusive society, promoting peace, harmony, and equality.
However, in the face of evolving challenges and a rapidly changing world, it is imperative that we adapt and innovate. As Director, my vision for the GSDS is to build upon our strong foundation and propel it into the future. I envision the GSDS that not only preserves the past but also actively engages with contemporary issues and promotes Gandhian values in a meaningful way.
To achieve this vision, we must collaborate with like-minded organizations, scholars, activists and artists to create a vibrant environment that fosters dialogue, critical thinking, and social change. We will explore new avenues of outreach, leveraging technology and digital platforms to reach a wider audience. Our goal is to inspire individuals, communities, and institutions to embody the principles of peace, equality, and justice in their daily lives.
Furthermore, I emphasize the importance of inclusivity and diversity in our work. Mahatma Gandhi believed in the unity of all humanity and championed the rights of the marginalized and oppressed. We must strive to ensure that our programs and initiatives reflect this ethos, fostering an environment that is welcoming and empowering to all.
As we embark on this journey together, I invite each and every one of you to contribute your ideas, expertise, and enthusiasm. Your dedication and passion are vital in realizing our shared goals.
