Freedom will be meaningful by change of heart, not change of power: Dr S N Subbarao
The famous Gandhian freedom fighter Padmashree Dr SN Subbarao has said that for Gandhiji freedom meant attainment of Swaraj. They believed that freedom would be meaningful not only by change of power, but by change of heart of the people of India.
Shri Subbarao was expressing his views as a keynote speaker in the National Conference organized by Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti today, "Gandhiji's influence on the freedom movement". This conference was organized to commemorate the elixir of freedom. Shri Subbarao said that Gandhiji's life journey has been from a timid person to a courageous person. All the youth should take inspiration from his life. Recalling the memories of the past, he said that he used to study in school during the Quit India Movement. He was arrested for chanting Bharat Mata Ki Jai and wearing Khadi.
The chief guest of the programme, Dr. B.P. Singh, former Governor of Sikkim said that Gandhi used to say that all religions teach us that we should all be united in mutual harmony. Gandhiji always worked for the restoration of peace, harmony, non-violence and mutual affection in the society.
Former Director of National Gandhi Museum, Dr Y. P. Anand said that Mahatma Gandhi is not just a person but an idea. His thoughts are very important for the upliftment of our life. The success of the freedom movement cannot be imagined without Gandhi.
Dr. Vidya Jain of Asia Pacific Research Association described Gandhiji as the biggest advocate of women's upliftment. She said that Gandhiji tried to uplift the status of women in the society. He replaced women as an empowered class by breaking the inferior image of women. He kept women at an important place in all his programs like national unity, satyagraha, creative work etc.
GSDS Director Shri Dipanker Shri Gyan said that Gandhi was a symbol of cultural unity. He was not a member of the Constituent Assembly, but our Constitution is influenced by his ideas. He said that with the inspiration of Hon'ble Prime Minister, Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti is remembering the anonymous freedom fighters on the 75th anniversary of independence and paying tribute to them through various programs.
Dr. Vedabhyas Kundu, Programme Officer of the committee expressed gratitude to the guests involved in the programme. Shri Rajdeep Pathak, Programme Executive GSDS moderated the conference.
